Give Me A Push

2017

Give Me a Push is a sculpture nestled within a Louisiana art garden. Crafted from weathered steel and commonly found 2x4s, it is reminiscent of an antiquated railway handcar wasting away. Designed for two people to interact with, the handcar sits atop a simple rail structure made of 2x4s and steel, forcefully peeling off the ground and ascending into a nearby oak tree. This concept draws inspiration from the collaborative efforts of myself and Richard Abbot, intertwining our vision with childhood memories rooted in the deep railway history of our respective hometowns.

As the seasons change, the sculpture takes on a natural transformation. During fall, the sculpture blends seamlessly into the surrounding foliage, its rusty orange hues camouflaged amongst the leaves, evoking the imagery of a child hiding their secret projects from prying eyes to avoid disruption during construction. The deliberate simplicity of materials and construction reinforces the idea of a childhood fantasy come to life.
