Lincoln Square Theater
2016
Lincoln Square Theater is a conceptual proposal for an extension to the existing Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts in New York City created during my time at LSU School of Architecture. Nearby Lincoln Center follows the traditional format in which there is an greater emphasis on the lobby than there is with the performance or backstage. With that in mind, this theater foregoes the traditional lobby and replaces it with an enclosed yet transparent sculpture park open to the public. A catwalk acts as this democratic lobby’s chandelier and connects the two masses floating above in which resides the “backstage”. Beneath the park, is a cafe that acts as the threshold to the theater as a remedy to the grandeur of elitist Lincoln Center. The theater’s mechanical systems allow the seating and stage to travel between the public park and private performance space to maximize the building’s versatility.
