MassTimber Housing
2017
This conceptual proposal for affordable housing in Southeast Louisiana was created during my time as a student at LSU School of Architecture. This yakisugi-clad CLT housing complex is located in Baton Rouge’s Expressway Park. The building-hill hybrid provides pleasing views for vehicles passing above, but also adds green space for residents to cultivate, inhabit, and traverse. The grassy slopes of the buildings are calibrated in such a way to reduce heat loss and help maintain a steady indoor air temperature for the adjoined structure. In addition to the housing, recreation rooms, fitness studios, and a bike loop connected to the neighborhood greenway are located at the intersection of sloped earth and vertical structure. This element provides enjoyment for the residents, promotes healthy living, and further connects the housing to its surrounding environment.
